Abstract Birthday Cake

This is a lemon cake with vanilla buttercream & vanilla buttercream fondant. One of my friend's friends asked that I make a cake for our mutual friend's birthday today. She left the design up to me. I know that this friend isn't into an elegant or flowery cake. She wears a lot of neutral colors & is a very talented photographer. I decided to go with black, white & grey (although my grey turned green which I discovered was a reaction from the vanilla).

This is the final project.....

This is a picture that my friend sent me after she opened her cake & realized that the design matches her jacket! Totally unplanned but it's nice to hit a home run with the design and colors!

Girly Polka Dots for A Birthday Girl!

As I always say, this was a fun cake to do! This customer asked for a fun girly cake but no flowers...I suggested polka dots & this is what I came up with. Honestly I was having "decorators block" & Googled polka dot birthday cakes but didn't see any that I liked. We had a small snow storm tonight & we dressed our daughter up to go sledding. I ran up to my daughter's room to find her wool socks & some tights to put under her pants. BINGO! Inspiration! I've included a picture of the tights below....it's funny how inspiration can strike at the strangest moments.

Valentine's Day Cakes

This year for Valentine's Day I ran a special - which I would like to do again last year as these cakes are so quick & easy to make! $14 for a 2 layer buttercream cake - flavors of your choice!

Here are the ones that I did....

Vanilla with vanilla buttercream

1st layer Guinness Chocolate cake, 2nd Vanilla
Bailey's Buttercream

Vanilla cake with Pina Colada Buttercream

Vanilla cake with Pina Colada Buttercream

Chocolate fudge cake with Vanilla Buttercream

May The Force Be With You

This was another fun cake to make - but I say that about all my cakes! It was a birthday cake for a little boy who turned 6 this week. He loves Star Wars & his mom asked me if I could make a Star Wars cake. I knew I could & since I have that fun 3D teddy bear pan I knew I could make a 3D Yoda for the top.

Since it was his 6th birthday I made the bottom layer looking like the desert - a sandy color - like the scene in the 6th Star Wars movie. I put a bunch of characters on it. It took me longer to Google each character to find pictures of them than it did to decorate the cake. I'm so clueless when it comes to Star Wars & I'm so thankful for Google. It's amazing how when you put in "tall mean Star Wars Teddy Bears" you get Wookies & when you put in "tall Gold Guy in Star Wars" you get C-P3O (I think that's his name). It was fun.

The two round cakes are marble cake & the Yoda is vanilla pound. All the decorations are done in buttercream. Fondant would have been a cleaner look but a lot of children don't care for fondant so I decided to not go that route.

Scratch & Win!

This was a cake that I made for a 60th Birthday party. The birthday boy enjoys scratch tickets & this is one of his favorite games to play! I was given the ticket to design the cake. 1/2 of the cake is chocolate & 1/2 is vanilla. The cake is filled & decorated with vanilla buttercream.

1/2 Chocolate 1/2 Vanilla

The Lottery Ticket (that I won $2 off of)!

Finished product complete with edible glitter!

Rocking Horse

This cake was for a baby shower. I made it from a cute rocking horse cake pan. The cake is a vanilla butter cake & is filled & decorated with almond buttercream.
